Police officer's peewee league builds community on Oxnard fields
When Oxnard police Cmdr. Luis McArthur launched the kids' soccer program about six months ago, he had two teams. The Oxnard Shields Athletic Club has since exploded to 30 teams with more than 180 youngsters from all around Ventura County and beyond.

Luis McArthur attends Rose Park and Cal-Gisler Neighborhood Council meetings
Luis McArthur attended the Rose Park and Cal-Gisler Neighborhood Council meetings last week. There, Luis received overwhelming support for his candidacy for mayor of Oxnard. Many attendees, including the Chairs of both councils, Alfonso Arroyo and Teresa Salazar, have joined Luis McArthur's campaign as committee members. They all are interested in bringing new energy and vibrant leadership to the council that works for everyone. They strongly support Luis's strategic goals, which include ensuring Oxnard has sufficient resources to update local plans reflecting community input, addressing public safety concerns, improving and expanding local infrastructure, dealing with environmental impacts with a focus on open green space, balancing jobs and housing, streamlining housing construction, ensuring adequate water supplies to support new growth, and working with other leaders to reduce homelessness and provide resources to the drug addicted and mentally ill.
